History Matters - historymatters.org.uk

SchoolHistory.co.uk
http://www.schoolhistory.co.uk/

This is one great site for teachers of history.  As a member of the Association of Teachers’ Websites, websites are created by real experts – teachers, have high quality teaching resources and materials for free and are comprehensive and user friendly.  This site certainly fills those criteria.  There is something here for students in grades 5 to 12.

If your students have ever been bored with history, the 8 interactive games should change that!  In Walk The Plank, there are 67 topics available to students to try and make their teacher walk the plank.  Other games include Penalty Shootout, Hoop Shoot, Fling Your Teacher, Duckshoot, Beat ‘da Bomb, Noughts & Crosses, and Hangman.  Each game takes questions from a period in history.

Reviewed Internet Links is a very useful feature that more educational websites should employ.  Click on this link to find an annotated review of websites that are practical to use in the classroom.  Too often websites are recommended that are just too detailed for students to use or have few or no resources that students can use. This feature reviews over 1000 historical Internet links.  Here you’ll find reviews which will save you hours of time.

The Online History Lessons link contains full, mini, revision lessons and ICT applications.  These interactive lessons will certainly catch and hold students’ interest.   Supplement these lessons with over 650 downloadable worksheets and over 80 PowerPoint presentations.  Then have your students take the interactive quizzes to test their knowledge on specific history topics

Quizzes here include sliding puzzles (put famous images back together), historical pairs and match up.

To cap off this site, there is even a section for teachers for lesson ideas, case studies, a discussion forum and more.  Truly an historical site.
