http://www.kidzonline.org/TechTraining/

Kidz Online is a non-profit web-based educational service established to help students and teachers integrate technology into new literacy experiences.

This is a free service targeted at students and teachers gr. 5-12.  Registration is optional and also free.  Registering gives you access to download higher quality video files and the ability to save videos and lesson plans in the My Resources folder.  A monthly newsletter is also available on upcoming webcasts.

Kidz Online is made up of three main sections and five different channels.  The three main sections are: Tech Training, Lesson Plans, My Resources.  The five different channels are:  Kidz Teaching Kids (KTK), gURL Tech, Technology in Action (TiA), Streaming Futures, and Teach IT.

The Tech Training is made up of a series of online streaming videos (or available for download through registration) on the following topics: 2D Animation, 3D Animation, Digital Audio, Digital Imaging, Digital Video, Microsoft PowerPoint, Media Translation, Net Basics, Online Collaboration, Security and Ethics, Utilizing the Internet and Webpage Creation. Videos are short, high quality and entertaining.  Each are designed to take account the short attention spans of students!

Additional support materials are available in Lesson Plans.  This is a search engine for lesson plans available for gr. 6-12 on the Tech Training topics.  Videos and lesson plans can be downloaded into My Resources upon free registration.

Complementing these excellent resources are the five different channels.  Each channel allows a teacher to customize lessons for their specific situation. For example Streaming Futures is an online career resource for teens. High-profile professionals from a wide range of careers provide valuable advice and offer real-world insight into their industry. gURL Tech showcases women in the field of technology. Female professionals from a large assortment of careers share their expertise and encourage other females to explore the many options presented to them by technology.

This site goes beyond being just a resource site.  Kidz Online also offers career opportunities and internships for students to learn more about web development, video production and digital imaging.  What a great way to prepare students for a professional career in technology!
