10 MILLION LIGHT YEARS IN 60 SECONDS (TEACHERS, STUDENTS GR. 4-UNIVERSITY)

The tutorial will beam you 100 quintillion (1020) kilometers from Earth, where the Milky Way galaxy is just one of many galaxies spiraling in the distance. From there, each click will take you an order of magnitude closer to home. But even traveling at that exponential speed, it will take you 15 clicks to see the beautiful Blue Marble again. Be careful not to click too far. Once you're back on Earth, there is still a microscopic universe to explore.

MAKING MATH LESSONS AS EASY AS 1, PAUSE, 2, PAUSE ... (TEACHERS)

Here's a good article from the New York Times on Singapore math instruction.

"For decades, efforts to improve math skills have driven schools to embrace one math program after another, abandoning a program when it does not work and moving on to something purportedly better.Singapore math may well be a fad, too, but supporters say it seems to address one of the difficulties in teaching math: all children learn differently.

In contrast to the most common math programs in the United States, Singapore math devotes more time to fewer topics, to ensure that children master the material through detailed instruction, questions, problem solving, and visual and hands-on aids like blocks, cards and bar charts. Ideally, they do not move on until they have thoroughly learned a topic."
