Where were you 20 years ago?

20 years ago I was one of 12 teachers hired for the newest school in our district.

We were all on pins and needles because our school was still under construction.

Finally the powers that be allowed us to set up our classes for a few hours on the labour day holiday, one day before school started.

We were told to set up our classes for 24 students.

The next day 36 students showed up in my class!

So many extra students showed up that day that we needed 6 extra portable classrooms to house them all!

It was the start of the most rewarding time in my teaching career.

I hope you have a much smoother first day than we did 20 years ago!
